There is just something so cute, unique and …well…fluffy about WAHM (work at home mom) fitteds. Kissing Blake is no exception. I was pretty excited to see the cute prints they sent to me to review. I can say that I’m still excited about them even after all this time using them.
This small business is truly a family affair. Both Leah and Derrick (who have five children) work together to put out their quality products. I give them major props. I love my husband, but if we had to work together like that, we might not fare so well.
Kissing Blake is pretty new to the cloth diaper scene. But don’t let that fool you. They exploded onto the market with their made to order in stock one size hybrid fitteds (there are so many prints that you’ll have a hard time picking which to get first). They have since added overnight and newborn fitteds!
I received two fitteds from Kissing Blake to review, however all views and opinions expressed here are honest and true.
First, I just want to explain what the heck a hybrid fitted is for those who don’t know. A fitted diaper has a hidden body layer of poly fleece, sandwiched between the outer print and the inner velour. This layer of poly fleece helps the diaper to be more effective and while not waterproof, is highly water resistant. You will still need a cover (wool, fleece or PUl) to make it 100% waterproof.
The first diaper I received was a daytime one size hybrid fitted. These are labeled to fit from 8-35 pounds by using a fold down rise. Sophia is just shy of 30 pounds and is almost 27 months old. The rise, while not super high on her is certainly high enough that she could still use these at least a few months more.
Per Kissing Blake’s website, this fitted is made of:
“top soaker is topped with coordinating cotton velour, and has 2 layers of SHOBF (Super Heavy Organic Bamboo Fleece, 500 GSM). The bottom (smaller) soaker has three layers of (SHOBF). There is a total of 6 layers of soaking action, 5 total layers of (SHOBF) and one layer of CV (Cotton Velour). These can be folded over creating 12 absorbent layers.”
The second diaper was a one size hybrid overnight fitted. The overnight fitted has three layers of poly fleece to help keep wetness in and also an additional soaker to add absorbency (three soakers total).
Here are the specs for the overnight hybrid fitted:
“The Extended/Night has 3 soakers. Each soaker has 3 layers. The top layer is minky and 2 layers SHOBF, middle has 3 layers of SHOBF and the bottom layer has 2 layers of SHOBF with the bottom layer being matching polyester fleece. For a total of 7 layers of SHOBF, the bottom soaker doesn’t have snaps so you can place it where you need the most absorbency.”
Both hybrid fitteds were soft and squishy out of the package. I found them to be well made of high quality materials. They arrive pre-washed, so you can throw them straight on the bum. Just remember that they won’t reach full absorbency until they are fully prepped, usually around 4-6 washes.
After using these for almost three months, I am still happy with them. I don’t use too many fitteds during the day right now. But I can say Kissing Blake’s hybrid fitted is super absorbent, wears and washes well and is a good fit for my toddler. I can’t speak to how it would fit on a smaller baby, because I don’t have one to try it on…yet, lol.
The overnight hybrid fitted is a GREAT option for any heavy wetters out there. My kid pees a ton at night and these took it in stride. The whole outer pat of the fitted wasn’t even wet in the morning. That’s a good 12 + hours for Sophia, so that is saying a lot. I actually found that I liked this better at night than my Sustainablebabyish Organic Bamboo Fitteds (Sbish OBF). Two reasons for this, one is that Sbish OBF’s tend to get a little crunchy after a while. This stayed soft even after multiple washes. Second, the three layers of poly fleece kept moisture in better.
Kissing Blake has a lot going for them. In addition to always adding to their available prints they are also adding new items to their product line-up. If you are a fan of WAHM products, it’s worth checking them out!
