I’m a pretty introverted person.  I rarely feel the need to socialize and my friends think I’m lame.

Even rarer are the times I read an “About us” page and wish the person lived next door.gddmichelle

Michelle of Green Diaper Demos is one of those people. (Look how cute she is!)

You’ve heard me say it before, interviews are my favorite kind of blog post.  You and I get the opportunity to learn about a wahm and support their family directly.

Grab a cup of coffee, have a seat and let’s chat with Michelle..

Tell us a little about your family.

My name is Michelle and I have been married to the love of my life for over 7 years and have a beautiful, very active, little boy of 28 months old and am expecting a new little boy at the end of February.

Congratulations!! So, tell us, when did you begin your cloth diaper journey?

We had planned on using cloth diapers before our son Michael was born, but did not know anyone else who did cloth diaper.

My husband was cloth diapered when he was a baby with prefolds, pins, and old fashioned plastic pants but I was not.

The first “modern” diaper I discovered was bumGenius because they were available online through Target and I could register for them. I started out with a stash of 14 since we had to buy most of them as our friends and family didn’t think we would go through with the cloth diapering.

Unfortunately, they didn’t fit our little guy until he was almost 3 months so we eased into cloth diapering I guess you could say and I added to my stash a little here and a little there with MANY different brands as I was so overwhelmed in search for that “perfect” diaper.

gdd

How did you make the leap from cloth diaper user to cloth diaper retailer?

In my search for that “perfect” diaper, I became addicted (as so many of us cloth diapering mamas do) and had the dream of having my own store full of fluff! My hubby said go for it, so here I am.

Hmmmm, I don’t know anything about this strange quest you speak of….  Obviously you have a sickness ;) Out of this collection of yours, which is your favorite?

My absolute favorite product is SoftBums. I remember in my quest for the perfect diaper, I had in mind what was important to me in a diaper. I wanted it to be one size, economical, bamboo inner, and I liked the idea of an All-in-two system where I could get multiple uses out of it so I wouldn’t have to carry as much in my diaper bag. Someone on a popular cloth diapering forum suggested SoftBums, and I fell in LOVE!

What is your go-to advice for parents new to cloth diapering?

My advice is actually my husband’s advice when I asked him what he would say to skeptical daddies. He said, “Cloth diapering is just like using disposables except instead of throwing the diaper away, you throw it in a pail.” (mind you, I do all the washing here and he said this while Michael was still exclusively breast-fed, but really we are quite fortunate to only have to turn a couple dials and press some buttons to wash our diapers)

Where can we find you on the web?

    Autumn,
I am so happy I found your site! I’ve been loving all the info and advice you give. It has helped me tremendously! First of all, a Softbums give away! I’m giddy! Nothing could make me happier except maybe a buy one (or five) get one free special! I too am on a quest to find the ultimate cloth diaper, and I came across the whole toggle idea, brilliant! BTW, I bought some Kawaii diapers upon reading your review (among others.) I have to say, I’m kinda disappointed with them. I really want to love them (I mean who doesn’t love the great price!) I’ve had them for about 3 weeks and 2 have completely de-laminated. Being a person who can fix almost anything, I’ve been trying to figure out if there is any thing I can do to relaminate them. (I can’t ask for a refund because I altered them by giving them internal gussets. I felt this would give them extra protection and would make them a little more trim{this couldn’t have affected the lamination because I have 4 others I did this to and they are just fine} Any suggestions? Again I love your site! It is my go-to place for cloth diapering! Thanks! Rebekah

Unfortunately, with Kawaii diapers and other inexpensive brands I think this is the downside. One could have perfect diapers for 3 years and another could get complete duds. The internal gussets sound great but the negative is voiding the warranty. I would still contact them and see what they say.
