Stretchy Hemp Flats are fast becoming a popular cloth diaper choice. Hemp is naturally antimicrobial. And trim. And super absorbent. And the stretch? It’s an added bonus that people seem to LOVE! HumBird Stretchy Hemp Flats are a great choice, let’s talk about why!

HumBird Flats

Here’s an interview with our reviewer Abbie. She shares her honest thoughts on the HumBird Stretchy Hemp Flat. She received 3 flats from Humbird.  A white edged – size 2, black edged – size 2, green edged – size 1. HumBird Stretchy Hemp flats are made from 47 hemp, 38 organic cotton, 15 stretch terry polyester cloth fabric.

Me: What was your first impression of the flats?
Abbie: Everything that Dawn (the owner of HumBird) makes is amazing.  Her flats seemed more substantial to other flats we have used.  They felt great against the skin and were not bulky once on the butt. The quality and workmanship are fantastic.  You can see  and feel the attention and care that Dawn puts into all of her products [and especially the flats].

Me: How big was your daughter Trixie when she fit into these?
Abbie: Trixie is skinny and long; she still weighs about 27 lbs at 3 years old. She hasn’t gained much weight since we started using the flats, but she has gotten taller and longer. The smaller sized flat fit really well up until a few months ago, but now, she is just too long, so we use the larger size.  The smaller flat can still be used, I just tri fold it.

Trixie at just over 2yo and probably 20-25 lbs in a size 1.

Me: Was it easy to get a good fit? I’m a flats novice and stress about whether I can get the fold right lol
Abbie: The great thing about flats is there are different folds you can use to get what you need out of the flat. I tend to stick with the origami fold or a tri fold if I am being lazy.  The flats were more than capable of manipulating into either fold. [Note from Jenn: The origami fold is more complicated than a simple tri fold, but creates a padded area that sits over the wet zone and can still be held together on baby with a boingo or snappi.]

Me: How well did they hold everything in? Did you have to add doublers, or was the absorbency enough?
Abbie:   The HumBird Stretchy Hemp Flats did really well even during the longest of afternoon naps.  We have been using the flats for about a year now and they are still great as they were they day they arrived.  Any stains were easy to either wash out or sun out. [Note from Jenn: Due to the nature of flats, they are one layer, they are extremely easy to wash and dry. There isn’t layers and layers of fabric for stink to hide in. Plus, with these the hemp brings that antimicrobial element to the table as well.]

Me: Is there anything that makes this product unique or different than other brands you’ve tried?
Abbie: I think the quality of the materials that Dawn uses really makes her products stand out. When you combine that with Dawn herself and the time and energy she puts into her products and the amazing customer service she provides-it’s really remarkable. This is one I would recommend everyone checking out!

Thanks to Abbie for trying out HumBird Stretchy Hemp Flats and letting us all know more about them! I just wanted to talk about the stretchy part of the flat. I’ve heard numerous people say that stretch makes it so much easier to get a good, tight and trim fit on their littles. Sort of like how good jeggings fit and feel vs jeans. And also how comfortable they are compared to regular denim. Here’s a bit more info about the Stetchy Hemp Flats as taken from the HumBird website:
These hemp flats have a 4 way stretch stretching 50% in one direction and 25% in the other. They do not feel like a “true” 4 way stretch as one direction is 25% but also they are not a “true” 2 way stretch as there is stretch, though much less in one direction, in all 4 directions.

I used All About Cloth Diapers when my oldest (now 5) developed an allergy around 6mo to disposable diapers. If it weren’t for this site, I would have switched back to disposables because I was having so many issues with fit and cleaning. This site really helped me to understand how to cloth diaper. I have used the big book every year even after my kids potty trained because there are so many amazing deals for everyday household and personal needs! So glad I found this site and the big book!

This is a great place to learn all there is to know about cloth diapers and the care of them. There is no right or wrong way to cloth diaper. All in one's may work best for one child but flats may work best for another child. You will understand how to care for your cloth diapers so they last you. There is a wealth of information on various brands and wool as well. Highly recommend!
