Kawaii GNHW A Nighttime Diaper That Works!

Cloth diapering at night is always a struggle for me. I’m changing diapers every 2-3 hours on a regular basis because my kids are such heavy wetters.

Audrey required the bulkiest diaper I’ve ever seen, as as she got older she required more and more layers to keep up with the amount she peed at night. At one point we even tried disposables (gasp!) and that literally blew up on us.

Zachary is no different than his sisters were in heavy wetting, and this being a big problem at night. I was starting to get frustrated and wondering what I  should do with him when I received an email saying that I was going to get to try a Kawaii Good Night Heavy Wetter diaper, I was pretty excited!

I used Kawaii diapers when I started my cloth diaper journey with Audrey back in 2010, but I didn’t realize that Kawaii had a night time solution.

Zachary

The diaper is a one size pocket, which makes it great for little babies (8lbs) up until potty training (36lbs).  The cover is made from TPU, the inside is made from microfleece and it comes with two large microfiber inserts.

I had forgotten how much I love hip snaps, they just keep diapers so nice and snug on baby.  They also make it easy to adjust a diaper for skinny legged babies (Zachary) and chunky monkeys (Audrey and Sydney.)

My go-to diapers are bumGenius 4.0, but they absolutely do not cut it at night for Zachary. Every morning he is soaked, and requires a bath (not his favorite way to start the day, let me tell you!)

This has been a problem even when I added hemp to the diaper, he is just such a heavy wetter. Since we’ve been using Kawaii GNHW he hasn’t leaked through, not even once!

One of the really nice things about Kawaii diapers is that they are inexpensive, and great diapers to get a stash started. The Kawaii GNHW diapers are only $12.95, which makes this a reliable, inexpensive night time diapering solution that works and isn’t hard on the wallet (and that keeps my husband happy!)

Another thing I love about this solution is that it is simple! With Audrey I had a fitted, a booster, a hemp insert, and a cover. Sometimes two boosters. It was very complicated, my husband couldn’t do it without me helping or without written instructions of where everything went, and Audrey was not patient. It often resulted in a grumpy mama trying to get a grumpy baby to bed. And it was SO bulky that she barely fit into her pajamas!

The Kawaii GNHW is nice and trim, and it’s a pocket, so you only have to snap everything together once, which also makes this diaper very daddy and grandparent/babysitter friendly. We like simple around here. :)

*I received a Kawaii GNHW for free.  My review is honest and was not influenced by the free gift.

The Kawaii link could use an update and isn’t directing properly and I end up on a page that has that “you’ve won a prize” spam. You don’t have to approve this comment for posting, I just wanted to notify you :)

Hi, I bought the GNHW and have not tried them yet (skeptical and a little afraid!). I have a 4 month old that is a pretty heavy wetter, I have been using disposables at night up to now (GASP!). I wanted to know what the difference is between their nighttime diaper and their other diapers that make them so absorbent because when I look at them, they look the same.
    Thanks!

The GNHW has a double layer PUL and includes two large MF inserts.

10.95 is too much for just one diaper when you can go to their loveyourbaby websight and its less then 8 dollars for one. I have the covers but so going to order some night time and pockets from them.

Crystal, that site charges a minimum of $11 to ship to the US and just goes up from there based on how much you spend. So while it may seem cheaper, that also has to be taken into account on the pricing. It’s always best to shop around. This may still be a good deal but you have to place a larger order for it to work out better. Thank you for taking the time to comment! :)

Thanks for the review!! We have just started using fitteds and they have been working well for us but when we have a little extra money, I’m going to purchase some of these so that we have some extra night time diapers on hand!! Hope we have just as good of luck!

We loved Kawaii GNHW. :) Although, my daughter (21mo) has soaked through them a few times! I think part of it was repelling issues, because I’m new to CD’ing and it didn’t occur to me to wash fleece liners with diaper cream on them separately… :) I love the Kawaii so much I just ordered a new one. <3

Does it work for a side sleeper as it’s a pocket? I’ve found anything with an insert doesn’t work on my side sleeper, She must pee fast or something and she soaks that side to the insert and then out then the leg of the diaper and her bed.

You might look into trying a double gusset. I found Alva (Alva Baby) makes some.

Gonna have to agree! We use the GNHW at night and no leaks! It’s a godsend seeing as I bed share with my 10.5 month old twins and it would be such an unconvince to have to get them both up in the middle of the night to change sheets or put towels under them.

I’ve been using Kawaii overnights on my daughter for about a year now and love them as well. I have to strip them about every 2 months as the fleece repels with our hard water build up, but I have the same issue with all my fleece lined diapers – no biggie. I still put woolies over the Kawaii as I have a bum up tummy sleeper – the combo works perfectly for us!

I love these diapers. I bought 2 of them on a splurge a few months ago they are my go to night time dipes. My son almost always has a first thing in the morning sneeze – the sun makes him and his dad sneeze – go fig. That sneeze pushes all other diapers over the edge. And he tends to leak at the hip. Hip snap, snug fit and super absorbent makes for dry baby and mumma as we co-sleep. I will have to go get some more.

I used All About Cloth Diapers when my oldest (now 5) developed an allergy around 6mo to disposable diapers. If it weren’t for this site, I would have switched back to disposables because I was having so many issues with fit and cleaning. This site really helped me to understand how to cloth diaper. I have used the big book every year even after my kids potty trained because there are so many amazing deals for everyday household and personal needs! So glad I found this site and the big book!

This is a great place to learn all there is to know about cloth diapers and the care of them. There is no right or wrong way to cloth diaper. All in one's may work best for one child but flats may work best for another child. You will understand how to care for your cloth diapers so they last you. There is a wealth of information on various brands and wool as well. Highly recommend!
