Back in 2012, Autumn wrote that Chelory was on her short list of almost perfect cloth diapers! I say almost because there is no such thing as perfectly, perfect. But there sure are a few that are amazing! Want to know something else that’s impressive? A few months ago the Chelory Stay-dry All in One was at the top of my absorbency tests. It held 13 ounces! That’s more than a can of coke!
Needless to say, I was super excited when Rachel, the owner and creator of Chelory, contacted me to review their Organic All in One (AIO). I did receive this diaper for the purpose of a review. All statements and opinions expressed here are honest and true.
A few cool things to note about Chelory cloth diapers:
- They arrive ready to use. No need to wash first. Just throw on baby and enjoy. They are not fully prepped though. So remember that they will reach full absorbency after approximately 6-8 washes.
- Chelory uses Smart Tabs for their hook and loop closure. This means that they pretty much fold onto the laundry tab themselves after you take the diaper off. I found that they actually stayed that way in the wash. Big plus, as I loathe cloth diaper chains. I usually use loop fabric to solve the issue, but I don’t need to on Chelory.
- The design of the rise snaps allows you to adjust this cloth diaper for four rise settings. AND you can change out any snaps for custom snap colors just by entering the colors in the notes section when purchasing!
The Chelory Organic All in One is a one size cloth diaper labeled as fitting from 12 – 40 pounds. It is available in both hook and loop and snap closure. I found the hook and loop to be one of the stronger ones I’ve used. I’ve never had an issue of it popping open because the closure isn’t ‘sticky’ enough.
Sophia is now 2.5 and about 32 pounds. She still has room left to grow. I’m not sure she would make it until 40 pounds, I’d be worried about the rise getting too short before the waist gets too small. I’ve used my other Chelory Stay Dry on her since she was around 6 months old. I can’t remember what setting we were using when I first got them, but I do know that I always found it easy to get a good fit on her.
Remember I mentioned how crazy absorbent Chelory’s are?
In my at-home absorbency testing, (not the official word on absorbency, but it does give you a good idea!) the Chelory Stay Dry AIO was at the top of the list with an incredible 13 oz! I have now also tested the Organic version and it came in at 12 oz. Still a VERY respectable amount. It’s probably due to the stay dry layer absorbing the additional ounce of liquid. The beauty of Chelory is that (without the need to add any absorbency) you have a trim cloth diaper option that can stand up to almost any baby’s output. FYI for any of you wondering…You would still have to add something for nights because 12 hours is a looooong time and a lot of pee to hold.
Why is Chelory SO Absorbent?
It’s because of Zorb!
Chelory uses a bamboo/Zorb blend for all their inserts. Zorb is believed to be able to absorb 10 times its weight in less than a half second. It is also highly resistant to compression leaks. Want to hear more about this amazing Zorb stuff? Click here for full details!
The only difference between the Stay-Dry and Organic versions is that the organic version is left with the Organic Bamboo/Cotton Fleece layer on top so only organic fibers are touching baby. The Stay dry version is topped with wicking jersey.
I’ve had my Chelory Stay Dry version since the beginning of 2013 and have been using it since then. I am very satisfied with the way it has worn. There are a few small holes in the liner, nothing that affects function and nothing that wouldn’t be typical for an AIO to show after two years of use. The velcro tabs have curled slightly, also very typical of any hook and loop cloth diaper. Chelory is made with high quality materials and care. I expect that this organic diaper will wash and wear equally as well.
These can take forever to dry. But you can improve drying time drastically by looping one of the insert layers around the diaper. This allows air to get into the layers easier and dry faster.
